High voltage power transformer substation

Substation Transformers

Substation Transformers are used in the Power Grid to step down transmission voltage to distribution voltage. Typical transmission voltage ranges are 46,000 to 161,000 volts, with typical distribution voltages being between 2,400 to 35,000 volts.

These transformers usually range from 1.5 MVA to 60 MVA in size.

Pad Mounted Transformers:

Pad Mounted Distribution Transformers are used in the Power Grid to step down or step up voltage depending on the specific need. Pad mounted transformers are fed from underground and typically contain Mineral Oil or Natural Ester Fluid. These transformers usually range from 15 KVA up to 5000 KVA and have a primary voltage between 2400 – 34500 volts, but can also be designed up to 10,000 kVA and 69,000 volts.

Pole Mounted Transformers

Pole Mounted Distribution Transformers are used in the Power Grid to step down or step up voltage depending on the specific need. Pole Mounted Transformers are typically mounted on a power pole or a platform. These transformers usually range from 5 KVA up to 500 KVA and have a primary voltage between 2400 – 34500 volts. Secondary voltages typically range between 120 – 7200 volts.

Cast Coil Transformers

Cast Coil Power Transformer. Product Overview & Application. Cast coil power transformers feature primary and secondary windings which are vacuum cast inside a solid block of epoxy resin. The epoxy resin is introduced under vacuum in order to penetrate all the spaces within the winding, ensuring a void free casting with minimal partial discharges.

Voltage Regulators

Voltage regulators are used on the power grid to incrementally step up and step down voltage to make sure the desired output is maintained.

Most of the time they are located in the substation next to the transformer, but they are often times found out on the powerline as well.

They are seen in voltages ranging from 5kv to 35kv and come in sizes ranging from 57 kVA to 833 kVA.

Reclosers

Reclosers are used in the power grid to protect expensive equipment and trip the power off in the event of a surge, just a like a circuit breaker in your home.

Reclosers are typically found in a substation or mounted to a power pole. They are used in voltage applications ranging from 5kv to 35kv. Other power distribution equipment provided by DESI (New, Reconditioned or Surplus):
